National Solar Schools Program

The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) is helping Australian schools take practical action to tackle climate change by offering eligible schools the opportunity to compete for grant funding of up to $50,000 (GST exclusive) to install solar power systems and a range of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. Schools are able to improve their energy and water efficiency as well as reduce their ongoing energy costs. In particular, for schools with a mains power supply, surplus electricity generated by solar power systems on weekends and during school holidays may be able to be sold back to the electricity grid for extra electricity and greenhouse savings.
Eligible energy efficiency measures include (but are not limited to):
- solar system
- small hydro system
- small wind turbine
- energy efficient lighting
We are happy to design an eligible system that meets your school's environmental and budget objectives, and can also assist you with the NSSP application.
Changes to the program
As part of the 2011-12 Budget, the Government announced that the NSSP will close on 30 June 2013, and has one remaining funding round. Savings generated will be reinvested in new proposals to move Australia to a clean energy future.
