Online Special

$48.99

was: $55.00

:

Programmable 12V DC timer to switch appliances.

ON and OFF up to 8 times each day and a selection of 11 day-of-the-week options. The minimum programmable time is 1 second with increments of whole seconds. It has a built-in rechargeable battery if you wish to plug it into a different location. Can switch loads up to 10 amps.
Uses about 5 mA on standby.

24 volt version also available.

Note: a catch diode is required for switching motors (including pumps & fridges). A typical one may be rated at 6 amps at 600 to 1000 volts.
A 6A diode is included with purchase of the timer. If you need more diodes, we have these in stock for $1.10 and the part # is DIO-001.

The "catch diode" is a small electronic component (rectifier) that is often used when certain pieces of equipment are turned on and off by an electronic switch.

Many useful devices like electric motors, solenoids, relays etc, have a coil or coils of wire wound around an iron core, to create a magnetic field.

When current being supplied to this type of device is interrupted or turned off, the internal magnetic field that exists, collapses, and can cause a very large voltage to be "induced" in the winding that set up the field in the first place. This can be many hundreds of volts for a fraction of a second, and can damage the electronic switching component that caused the planned interruption (say timer switch)

The catch diode or rectifier is a small device that only lets current pass in one direction, and wiring it into the circuit conducts this surge of "back-voltage" harmlessly away.
