General Information about Mobile phones
A typical mobile phone has a 10 W/h battery and is designed to charge over 3 hours. A Nokia 3310 used 5W while charging and 1 watt once charged. A Telstra ZTE used about 3.3 W while charging. Another phone with a 12V car charger used between 0.21 and 0.15 amps @ 12 volts and took around 5 hours to charge. So, on average, a mobile phone uses 10- 15 W/h to charge. Based on anecdotal feedback, people need to recharge their phone perhaps as often as daily or as little as weekly. Typical phone battery capacity is 2400 mA/h.
The power used will vary a lot depending on many factors including:
- Type of phone; size, quality and age of the battery;
- usage pattern;
- distance from base station (a weak signal uses more power to compensate);
- time spent searching in poor reception area.
