Desalination/Distiller Solar Panel for Water Purification
Carocell direct solar desalination technology emits no green house gas emissions, uses no chemicals, no costly membranes, no filters, no electronics and no ongoing power source is required other than solar radiation.
Carocell produces safe, high quality potable water from any source including seawater, bore water and contaminated or polluted water. It also incorporates Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technology when Carocell panels are in a series, which converts waste brine into drinking water and valuable fractionalised salts (sodium chloride and magnesium chloride - used for dust suppression in the mining industry).
Carocell is the most efficient and cost effective product of its kind. Preliminary independent testing by world-renowned engineering firm ARUP found Carocell to be almost twice as solar efficient as comparable products. See the bore water test results in download section (PDF).
Low cost, robust, modular solar panels can be ground or roof mounted. The design enables multiple panels to be connected together to produce larger quantities of distilled water from a single source. The panels can be supplied individually or in bulk. Single panels are ideal for family use, a series of panels will provide for a village or the panels can be set up as a large scale water farm. The unique design of carocell enables rainfall to be captured and harvested as well. The feed water can be supplied by gravity/pressure or pump enabling it to be completely versatile to fit within your current demand.
The unit is supplied with a pressure reducer which is inserted in between the tap and tail so it can be used on household systems. If gravity fed, the head should range from approx 5 cm lowest to 40 cm highest above the distiller's inlet using the 13mm pipe. If the gravity is any greater then the flow will need to be controlled by the tap. In this case it may be better to have 2 taps - one which is an off and on tap and the other is set to reduce the flow.
Carocell's increased efficiency (65% with peak efficiencies above 80%) over other solar distillation products (30 - 40%) is a combination of the proprietary materials used to dramatically increase the temperature of the feed water on the solar collector which enhances the evaporation / condensation processes inside the panel.
Additionally, sophisticated geometrical design allowing for easy maintenance, optimum performance and a self-controlling natural convection loop enabling widely superior energy recovery.
