RECs

The number of Renewable Energy Certificates (now called STC’s  - Small scale Technology Certificates) will go down for systems installed after 1st July 2011 because the multiplier is going from 5 to 4. Sorry if this sounds like gobbledygook – it is government speak to say the rebate is decreasing by 20% after 1st July 2011. This applies to both on and off-grid systems so act now to secure the best deal!

NSW Solar Bonus Scheme

The news is going from bad to worse in NSW. After running for less than 1 year, the feed-in-tariff (FiT) was reduced from $0.60 / kWh to $0.20 / kWh for systems applied for after 27th October 2010. On 13th Jan the NSW government announced that the 300MW cap on installations will soon be reached after which time residents will only receive $0.06 / kWh for any surplus power exported.
There is still a chance to receive the larger REC/STC rebate and the $0.20 FiT rate if you act right away.
In the meantime we hope that the coalition, who is likely to be in government soon, may change things for the better. However, recent comments from the Shadow Minister Ms Cusack didn’t sound very sympathetic. You can read her comments in the local paper and on our Facebook page.

There is also an important Get Up petition to sign about the Federal Government axing renewable energy support programs to pay for the Queensland flood damage.

Cheers from Dave and all the RPC crew.

Dave Lambert (Director)
