4) Solar Cooker Article
The following article was written by Bob at the Nimbin
Good Times newspaper:
"Savour the Planet" Rainbow Power Company
has just taken delivery of 120 solar cookers from India.
They have three different models. One is a 1-metre
dish cooker; the other two are box cookers of different
sizes. The previous small shipment had been a test
and sold out fast. The first 16 of this new shipment
have already left for PNG.
Though there are millions of these cookers in use
in India and all over the third world, it is believed
RPC is the only distributor of this technology in Australia.
Their efficiency has been tested and proven over many
years, indeed one ashram in India feeds all their 15,000
devotees entirely on solar. That´s 45,000 meals
per day. In this instance they use solar to make steam.
And what about the food? The nutritional advantages
of slow cooking have long been recognised, with all
the flavours, vitamins and minerals kept in. As the
food can´t over-cook there is no need to stir
or watch it. Saving time energy and pollution. Simply
put the food in the pots, point the cooker at the sun
and come back in two or three hours for a delicious
and healthy meal.
The concept of the parabolic reflector to concentrate
the sun´s rays was developed aeons ago, and the
age-old design is very simple to assemble. The box
cookers are ready to use straight from the box and
come complete with stainless steel cooking pots.
Remember there´s only 120 of them in this shipment.
Bon Appetit.
