Solar incentives, What does it mean for you ?

REC's reduce the cost of your system: Example: You receive 153 RECs with a 1.48kW.system, at $36 per Certificate, this totals to a deduction of $5.814(*conditions apply) read more

Gross Feed in Tarrif, if you are located in NSW you receive a minimum of 60cents per KWh produced read more

New Legislation for off the grid systems Are you considering an Off the grid solar system, for the first 20 kW of a system capacity you will benefit of the Solar Credits multiplier with a factor of five this deduction can save you tens of thousands read more

What are Renewable Energy Certificates (RECS)

    Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs):

Read more on the federal government website:- http://www.orer.gov.au/recs/

Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's) a federal government incentive.

This incentive is designed to  reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One certificate is the equivalent of 1MWh of renewable energy produced. These Renewable Energy Certificates can be traded for cash. REC's value will change with supply and demand. (Current trade value is approximately $36). The rate at which RECs are generated varies with how much sun your area gets. We at The Rainbow Power Company can offer a point of sale (POS) deduction to the value of your RECs.

    Example:

    1.48kW.System cost $11.560 - 153 RECs at $36 per Certificate,

Totals to a deduction of $5.814 which makes the amount payable $5.746* (*conditions apply)

One REC equals 1 MWh saved and is equal to a 20W light bulb being on for 50,000 hours.!!!!! !!

    FEED IN TARIFF for NSW

    NSW Grid Connect Incentives

The NSW government has recently implemented a “Gross” feed in tariff for all renewable energy generated in the state. ( conditions apply ) . What this means in real terms is that you will be paid at a fixed rate of $0.60 per kwh produced until 1-1-2017.

Energy Supplier Feed in Tarrif Comparison

Powercompanies offer competitive feed in tariffs, it can pay to shop arround !

Country Energy Origin AGL Tru Energy
60ct per kWh 66ct per kWh 68ct per kWh no feed in tariffs

    QLD Grid Connect Incentives.

Queensland currently offers a ‘Net' feed in tarrif modle. NET feed in means you are paid for any excess renewable energy you produce at a legislated rate. The current rate in Queensland is $0.44 per kWh.

    Australian Capital Territory

The ACT currently offers a ‘NET' feed in tarrif model. In the ACT you are paid $0.05005 per kWh for generation up to 10kWA nad a rate of $0.4004 for generation between 10kWA and 30kWA. These prices are set annually

But when you enter into a contract with your electricity supplier you are guaranteed payment of the Premium Price prevailing at that time for the full 20 years of your agreement.

What is the Solar Credits scheme ?

    • Eligible home wind, hydro or solar installations installed from 9 June 2009 may be eligible to receive extra renewable energy certificates to assist with the upfront costs of installing small-scale renewable energy systems under Solar Credits.
    • Solar Credits provides assistance to a much wider range of Australians and is not means tested.
    • Extra renewable energy certificates will apply to the first 1.5 kilowatts of capacity installed; systems with a higher capacity are still eligible for the standard number of renewable energy certificates.
    • The level of support provided by Solar Credits will depend on the market price of renewable energy certificates and the location and size of the system.
    • Solar Credits provides a higher subsidy in sunnier locations, where there is a greater environmental benefit from solar panels.

    The Renewable Energy Target (RET)

The expanded Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme has been established to encourage additional generation of electricity from renewable energy sources to meet the Government’s commitment to achieving a 20% share of renewables in Australia’s electricity supply in 2020.

    The RET legislation:

    • places a legal liability on wholesale purchasers of electricity to proportionally contribute to an additional 45,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy per year by 2020.
    • sets the framework for both the supply and demand of renewable energy certificates (RECs) via a REC market.

How does the RET encourage investment and growth in Australia’s renewable energy industry?

The RET provides renewable energy power stations and owners of solar water heater and small generation unit installations (small-scale solar PV, wind and hydro electricity systems) with a financial incentive through the creation and trade of RECs via the REC Registry.

Each REC created from an eligible energy source can be sold for a negotiated price and transferred to liable parties in a market based online system called the REC Registry.

The Enhanced Renewable Energy Target (eRET)

    New legislation passed

The Regulation increases the kilowatt (kW) capacity limit for which the Solar Credits multiplier applies in relation to off-grid small generation unit installations up to the first 20 kW of a system capacity.

Act fast because this is subject to an annual cap in the total number of certificates. If you are wishing to create RECs for off-grid units in the near future please contact ORER at orer@orer.gov.au as the Regulations and REC Registry software will be updated shortly.
