A grid connect solar system for businesses is not different in any way to a residential system. For many businesses it is, however, an even wiser investment.

Return on Investment

Many small businesses operated from 9am to 5pm which is exactly the time span when a solar system produces power. This means you can offset most if not all of your electricity needs. Businesses also pay a higher kWh rate than residential customers. These facts alone reduce the payback period for your investment to a few years. Furthermore, a solar system for your business is tax deductible.

Sizing a grid connect solar system

Take a look at this energy usage graph of a typical small office (also showing a well sized solar system to suit):

On a typical business day electricity consumption is quite predictable; computers, printers, lights etc. are turned on in the morning and turned off at the end of the day. If your business operates on weekends then your savings will even be greater.

An oversized grid connect system may still result in higher savings but will definitely increase the payback period. To provide more power at around 9am and 5pm results in a large surplus during midday:
