Off-Grid Solar Power

Living Off-Grid

Sunset on solar panels

Off grid, stand alone solar power solutions for those who are not able or willing to be connected to Australia's aging electricity grid. Never pay "Service Availability Charges" again. All you need is a few solar panels, an inverter, a regulator and a battery bank.

Over the years Rainbow Power Company designed and installed thousands of stand-alone power systems using quality components. Solar powered systems are by far the most popular, but we also developed hybrid systems comprising of micro-hydro and/or wind turbines, solar panels and diesel generators if required. View our Off-Grid Photo Gallery.

Quick Match

Find a system to meet your needs. Enter your daily power consumption from your electricity bill. Exclude all electricity used for heating which you may have to monitor for a few days (using an energy monitor) unless it's metered separately.

We have compiled 7 system examples. These systems serve as a guide only! Stand alone power systems do not come as 'off-the-shelf' solution. Each system should be tailored to your personal needs and geographic location.

Estimating your power needs is crucial in designing the right system for you. Use extra low voltage appliances where you can to reduce the cost of your system. Try our online calculator to give you an idea of your power needs. Another important factor is your location and topography. Read more about solar system design in our FAQ section.

Quote Request

Fill in our online quote request form or return our power sizing form for a more accurate stand alone solar system quote. If you buy a stand alone system from us you can participate in our famous Living with Solar course at no charge.

Rebates and Incentives

You may also be eligible for a government rebate. Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and Solar Credits are still available (conditions apply). Check out our rebates & incentives page.

Keep in mind that renewable energy technologies have improved significantly in recent years. Prices, particularly for solar panels, dropped massively. 10 years ago, the Howard government subsidised a solar panel with $8 per watt. Now, prices are below $3 per watt and the panels are much more efficient and durable.
