Small 12V Solar Distribution Board

Our DIY Off-Grid Solar Systems are compact, do-it-yourself power systems. These systems can energise a lot of small gear, including an efficient fridge.

Suitable for low-consumption or infrequent electricity users. Ideal for remote sheds, beach huts, motor homes or weekenders. If you need power for a dwelling you intend to live in 24/7, you may need a larger system with a more powerful inverter.

A DIY Off-Grid System comes with up to 6 x 260 watt solar panels, a 12 or 24 volt solar battery bank, and the pictured wall-mountable distribution board with MPPT regulator, DC breakers, fuses. The board offers enough extra space to accommodate a battery charger and a DC/AC battery inverter (up to 700W @ 24V).

DIY Off-Grid solar systems are available as flat-pack supply kits only.

A 12V power system for DC appliances only. Designed for energy conscious individuals consuming about 0.9 kWh per day*.

This system configuration powers lights, a DC pump, small DC fridge, laptop and phone/tablet chargers. If you want to operate 230V AC equipment, just add a pluggable inverter (up to 300 watts).

Installation

DIY Off-Grid Solar Systems are available as self-install kits only. Installation is very simple as most of the work has been done at RPC workshops. All required steps are straight forward and elaborate instructions are provided. Battery inverters (if any) are pluggable, meaning you do not need a licensed electrician.

The distribution board and batteries should be installed indoors (e.g. shed, garage, or dedicated room). Batteries must be close (~1m) to the board, but not directly underneath. We strongly recommend the addition of a battery box as exposed battery terminals deteriorate more quickly.

Training & Support

In addition to the detailed instruction manuals, a DIY Off-Grid Solar System also includes participation in our Living with Solar workshop valued at $195. Furthermore, attendees also received a copy of our famous book Energy From Nature.
