Solar Power Pool Pumps

Kid diving in swimming pool

All swimming pool owners know: the annual running cost for a grid powered pool pump can be excessive; $1000 and more for mid-size residential pools are common.

So why not take your pool pump off the grid?

That money will eventually stay in your pockets if you power your pool pump directly from the solar panels. No batteries or generator required.

Pools require more circulation in summer. The sun will be your timer, pumping more in summer than in winter months, even on slightly overcast days.

Below are two pool pump systems designed for Northern NSW. Other configurations are possible, which usually translates to more solar panels. Solar Pool Pump systems are supplied as DIY install kits only.

90,000 Litres Lorentz PS1800 with 2kW PV from $7890

Swimming Pool Pump System Examples

Residential Pools

Most suburban backyard pools have a capacity of 30 - 40,000 litres. The PS600 Solar Pool Pump in combination with 4 solar panels will circulate the water twice per day on average, more so in summer.

The configuration assumes that your pump is on the ground near the pool with a not so distant north facing roof to mount the panels to.

Suitable for swimming pools up to 50,000 litres.

Rural properties often feature larger pools, 80,000 litres or more. The PS1800 Solar Pool Pump in combination with 8 solar panels will circulate the water twice per day on average, more so in summer.

The configuration assumes that your pump is on the ground near the pool with a not so distant north facing roof to mount the panels to (about 14m²).

Suitable for swimming pools up to 100,000 litres.

Lorentz Logo

Lorentz swimming pool pumps are high quality products used in both residential and commercial applications. In most pool applications all of the filtration needs can be met directly from solar panels meaning no electricity costs and significant benefits to the environment.

Lorentz pump use a DC brushless motor for high efficiency and reliability, designed to last 10 years or more. The pump is connected to the solar panels via a controller. The controller monitors the system, controls the pump speed and optimises the amount of water pumped based on the power available.

Features

  • Zero energy costs provide a very fast return on investment
  • Longer life expectancy than standard AC motors
  • Quiet and efficient
  • Proven in service record
  • Speed controllable to match the pool size exactly
  • Smart modular design for simple and cost effective servicing and repair
  • ECDRIVE DC brushless motors, designed for solar with over 90% efficiency
  • High quality non corrodible materials used throughout
  • Solar direct connect with AC connection options
  • MPPT technology to maximise power use from PV modules

Installation

We recommend installation by a qualified plumber. You can install a solar pool pump as stand-alone unit, or in parallel with an existing 230V pump acting as backup unit. The electrical side of the pump system is fairly straight forward - once you have the panels mounted to the roof.

You could also employ an Off-Grid accredited installer and claim STCs. For example, the 8 Panel Luxury Kit would currently create $1520 worth of STCs.
Note: Rainbow Power Company does not install pump systems.

* Please adjust the assumptions to suit your case.

We install solar systems in Northern NSW and Southern QLD.

QLD:
Gold Coast (from Coolangatta to Southport), Nerang and Hinterland (Beaudesert) and out West (Warwick, Stanthorpe, Killarney)

NSW:
Northern NSW (Tweed Heads to Yamba, including Evans Head, Byron Bay and Ballina); the Far North Coast Hinterland (Grafton via Lismore to Murwillumbah) and out West (Casino to Tenterfield, including Drake and Tabulam, as well as Woodenbong and Bonalbo)

For larger system we also go up to Brisbane or down to Coffs Harbour and even Glen Innes. Other places by arrangement.
