Shunt Load Element - water immersion heater

This low-voltage water-heating element is for use as diversion loads for wind or hydroelectric systems. Use one or more of these heating elements with a regulator capable of load diversion, such as the Plasmatronics PL series or the Outback FlexMax series to turn your excess power into hot water.

This element has a standard square plate mounting as found on the more common hot water tanks. Depending on voltage and desired amp draw, two of these elements can be wired in series or parallel.

The resistance is 1.5 Ohms allowing them to be used for 12V, 24V or 48V systems by series or parallel element connections. The combinations are ideally suited to the load capacity of the PL20 regulator (20 Amps), PL60 (30 Amps) or Solid-state relays, RGX-R40 (40 Amps). If the PL40 is used, a relay would be needed to operate off the 5A load terminal.

The element length is approximately 260 mm.

40A @ 60V when used individually (1.5 Ohm)
