Battery Prices

Unfortunately batteries are continuing to rise in price due to the world price of lead. On large systems which we design, we are now sometimes seeing the batteries costing more than the solar panels! It certainly reinforces the view that one should take good care of their batteries. Fortunately regulators have come a long way in the past few years. They help to look after your batteries better and help you to monitor their situation more effectively.

New Rebate

The new RRPGP rebate guidelines and application forms are finally available. This is for people living remote from the grid and supplies power to houses, non-profit organisations and businesses. Upgrades to existing systems are also possible. The guidelines are complex, so I won´t try and explain more. More information on rebates and incentives.

Hybrid Vehicles

Toyota has expanded the use of its hybrid systems to minivans, SUVs, rear-wheel-drive sedans and other vehicles and has had increased sales worldwide. Toyota Australia set an all time monthly record in May 07 with Prius sales, said to be as a result of both increased availability and greater environmental consciousness. Toyota claims they have (since 1997) reduced emissions by some 3.5 million tons of CO² compared with the same class gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance.

Halogen Downlights

Murray C commented on last month's article that besides using a lot of power and generating a lot of heat, they can start fires in poor installations (of the lights and/or ceiling insulation). They can reach a temperature of 370C and use 80% more power than compact fluoros.

That's how we live

View and read about the homes of some of our current and previous staff.

Cheers from Dave and all the RPC crew.

We are Open for Business

Rainbow Power Company would like to assure our customers that we are trading (not quite as normal). System designers are working from home and can customise a quote for you (free of charge) over the phone and online. We are still dispatching and posting items, with safety precautions in place. You can still order online or over the phone, and pick up items from RPC (our show room is closed however, and appointments must be made to pick up orders). We are still doing site inspections, keeping the recommended social distancing.
