Rolls 5000 Series batteries, also known as "Big Reds", are one of the best flooded lead acid batteries on the market with a reputation based on superior reliability and durability as well as easy maintenance. Like most of our deep cycle batteries they come complete as a 12 Volt set, including interconnecting straps and acid spill container. Rolls 5000 Series Cells are available from 1156 to 2490Ah capacity (@100h) and come with a 3-year full replacement and a 7-year pro-rata warranty.
The battery design features a dual container construction. Each cell is self contained in a high temperature-retardant, durable polypropylene case. The outer container (with removable lid) is made of high-density "unbreakable" polyethylene - providing double protection against breakage or leakage. It serves as acid tray and consequently, an additional battery tray is not required for Rolls 5000 Series batteries.
Performance
Rolls' Big Reds have an impressive cycling rate: over 5000 cycles to 20% Depth of Discharge (meaning your battery remains 80% full) and ~3500 cycles to 50% Depth of Discharge. The 5000 Series was designed specifically for solar charging and other renewable energy applications. Like all flooded batteries, Rolls batteries require regular maintenance to achieve the above mentioned cycles.
The dual wall construction give the Big Red battery range a better low temperature tolerance than most flooded lead acid batteries. These batteries perform best (and last longer) when operated at an ambient temperature of ~ 20 to 25°C.
