Containerised Off Grid Solar Systems

Our Containerised Off-Grid Solar Systems are massive energy storage systems designed to supply a business or remote location with renewable energy.

Suitable for farms, mines, or a cluster of houses. Run all the gadgets you can think of, including large machinery and industrial pumps.

A Containerised Off-Grid System comes with up to 107kW of solar panels on SMA TriPower solar inverter(s), up to 320kWh of Lithium batteries and up to 12 x SMA Sunny Sunny Island battery inverter/charger. These are configured as 3 phase systems inside an air-conditioned and insulated shipping container.

Containerised systems are manufactured and tested at RPC to reduce installation time and cost. You would need a very large roof or ground mount frames to accommodate up to 288 solar panels.

Installation

An Containerised Off-Grid Solar Systems must be installed by a licensed electrician, better even by a Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited Off-Grid installer. If done by the latter, the solar installation will create STCs - e.g. the 98kW system would currently create $36686 worth of STCs - reducing the overall outlay.

If you reside within ~ 10 hours of Nimbin, Rainbow Power Company can install the solar power system for you. The STCs usually cover most, if not all, of the installation cost.

Should you live outside our installation area, we also provide these solar systems as supply only kits with detailed instructions for the electrician of your choice. The containerised system is pre-wired, the SMA inverters are pre-programmed and tested for a speedy, trouble-free installation.

The container needs to be connected to three additional electrical elements by a licensed electrician. Three sub-main main switches and distribution boards are provided as part of the system. Connection of these elements is project specific and our design team can help work with you to specify these to meet the requirements of the project.

  • The solar inverters are typically connected to a dedicated Solar distribution sub-board; the sub-board then connects to the containerised system via a dedicated 3 phase sub-main. The PV arrays are typically quite large and are often installed on large roof areas or on ground mounted structures.
  • The system often incorporates a customer's existing generator which needs to be connected via a dedicated sub-main. If no generator exists, RPC is happy to help specify an appropriate generator for the system.
  • The system also needs to be connected to the customer's electrical distribution system via a dedicated sub-main.
