Off-Grid Solar Public Lighting
The Pecan Area Light is a cost effective, stand alone solar light for applications where grid power is not readily available. The street lights are fully integrated and comprise a complete off-grid power system, including solar panels, regulator, fuses, deep cycle battery and battery box.
All the above is packed into Pecan's patented tilting pole that can be ordered in various designs.
Solar System Design Criteria
Each off-grid lighting system is designed to suit the location of its installation. Solar irradiation design data is used based upon the time of year when the proposed installation site receives the least amount of sun.
This design criteria will make sure that the light will operate throughout the year for the selected time. Fully sealed maintenance free Sonnenschein™ batteries are used and sized to provide over 5 days no sun storage with an operating life of up to 8 years.
Why use Off-Grid Public Lighting?
Here are some points that should be considered when comparing Solar Powered Lights with Mains Powered Street Lights:
- Cost to run power from the grid
- Cost for trenching - if underground
- Cost of street, sidewalk and landscaping to be torn up and replaced
- Danger of hitting underground services
- Cost of transformers, metering, etc
- Elimination of light bills
- Immunity to power outages
- DIY Installation
Free Solar Power - All Year Round
The solar panels absorb light and convert it to energy, even on overcast days. Furthermore, an integrated maximum power point tracker (MPPT) increases energy yield by an additional 25% – 30%. The electricity is stored in a state-of-the-art deep cycle battery; we use gel batteries from Sonnenschein™ - made in Germany. The system will operate for 5 consecutive days without sun.
The battery regulator also controls the lighting functions of the system. You can run the lights all night, a few hours only, or split times. The solar cells act as sensor, turning the light on at dusk.
